Costa Rica is our anchor for active travel. The classic loop ties together Arenal volcano, Monteverde cloud forest and a coastal stretch (Manuel Antonio or Guanacaste) in eight to ten nights. Lodges are small, owned by locals, and arrange the activities directly.
Pack for two climates. The Pacific coast runs hot and dry; the cloud forest can drop ten degrees in the same afternoon. Inclusive packages here mean activities and transfers, not buffets and bars.
Best time to visit
December to April is dry season everywhere. May-November is greener and cheaper, with afternoon rain you can plan around.
